Step 1: Henry's Law relationship
Henry's Law states: p = K_H · x, where p is partial pressure of gas and x is mole fraction (solubility) in liquid solution. Rearranging: x = p / K_H.
Step 2: Compare solubility at identical pressure
Since solubility x is inversely proportional to K_H (x ∝ 1/K_H), the gas with lower K_H value (Gas B) is more soluble in water.
- Henry's Law: p = K_H · x
- Solubility x ∝ 1 / K_H
K_H increases with increasing temperature, explaining why gases are less soluble in warm water (aquatic life thrives in cold water).
Assuming higher K_H means higher solubility.
